
Padang — Padang State University’s Center for Research on Recycling and Organic Waste Management (CRROWM), also known as the Center for Research on Organic Waste Management, distributed one thousand eco-friendly purchasing bags to visitors of Padang’s Gor H. Agus Salim. This was done as part of the Indonesian Waste Bank Forum’s participation in the GEBER EMAS (Community Education Joint Movement) event.
As chairman of the UNP Organic Waste Management Research Center, Prof. Dr. Azwir Anhar, M.Sc explained that CRROWM-UNP is obligated to educate the public on the significance of maintaining a clean environment. “We do this in honor of World Environment Day, which occurs on June 5, 2022.” It is anticipated that by disseminating eco-friendly shopping bags, people will become more environmentally conscious,” he said. In addition to distributing one thousand eco-friendly shopping bags, CRROWM-UNP Secretary Siska Alicia Farma stated that her party also inked a mutual commitment with a number of other parties in an effort to reduce the use of plastic bags by the citizens of Padang City.
“We also signed agreements with a number of parties to collaborate on reducing waste, which is a growing cause of numerous diseases,” he explained.
In her remarks, Mina Dewi Sukmawati, the Chairperson of the Indonesian Garbage Bank Forum, added that the activity of distributing eco-friendly purchasing bags would not only target GOR H Agus Salim, but also traditional markets in the city of Padang.
“The activity will continue targeting traditional markets in the city of Padang for the next two weeks, and on the following Saturday there will be a recycling competition between waste institutions in the city of Padang. This activity is supported by PT Pegadaian, a collaborator of all waste institutions engaged in waste sorting and gold conservation, he concluded.
Representatives from the Padang City Environmental Service, the Indonesian Waste Bank Forum, P.T Pawnshop, J&T express, CRROWM-UNP, ECOBYecoenzyme, West Sumatra WALHI, SR Advertising, West Sumatra GILPLAS, and the Padang State University Biology Student Association were also present at this event.
